San Marino’s Eurovision 2026 journey came to an unexpected end on Tuesday night after SENHIT failed to secure a place in Saturday’s Grand Final
San Marino’s Eurovision 2026 journey came to an unexpected end on Tuesday night after SENHIT failed to secure a place in Saturday’s Grand Final, despite bringing one of the evening’s biggest surprise moments to the Vienna stage.
Performing the high-energy track Superstar, SENHIT delivered a full-on Eurovision production packed with dancers, bright visuals, flames and a dramatic late appearance from Culture Club frontman Boy George.
The 80s music icon appeared during the closing section of the performance to huge cheers inside the arena, instantly becoming one of the night’s most talked-about moments across social media.
Wearing an eye-catching mirrored outfit and trademark hat, Boy George embraced the chaotic Eurovision atmosphere as SENHIT powered through the final chorus surrounded by pyro and flashing lights.
While the performance generated huge online discussion, it ultimately was not enough to push San Marino into the top ten qualifying countries from the First Semi-Final.
SENHIT is no stranger to Eurovision fans, with Vienna marking another return to the contest for the San Marino representative.
Known for embracing bold staging choices and memorable performances, she once again leaned heavily into the fun, over-the-top side of Eurovision that viewers either completely love or absolutely hate.
Online reactions after the show were mixed.
Some fans called San Marino’s elimination one of the biggest shocks of the night, praising the performance for being entertaining, unapologetically camp and pure Eurovision chaos in the best possible way.
Others felt the entry struggled musically compared to some of the stronger vocal performances competing in Tuesday’s Semi-Final.
Ahead of the contest, many viewers questioned how Boy George was able to appear for San Marino despite having no direct connection to the country itself.
However, Eurovision rules allow countries to work with international artists, producers and performers regardless of nationality, something that has become increasingly common in recent years.
Boy George joined the performance purely as a featured guest alongside SENHIT.
Boy George’s appearance also attracted wider attention amid ongoing discussion surrounding this year’s contest and the political controversy involving Israel’s participation.
Despite this, the singer defended his decision to take part, stating that Eurovision should remain focused on music, celebration and unity.
Although San Marino’s Eurovision journey has now come to an end, SENHIT and Boy George undoubtedly delivered one of the most memorable performances of the night.
